Crab Apple. An unusual but worthy addition to the garden noted for its exceptionally large, dark purple-black fruit. Masses of pink flowers in spring contrast well against the bronze-coloured new leaves. In late summer the dark fruits ripen, developing to the size of small apples. The very dark flesh makes delicious jams, jellies and is also very good for juicing, keeping its dark colour. It is thought this variety was orignally developed for cider, but the juice can be drunk on its own or blended with other varieties. Fertile, moist, but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Ht upto 5m.
