M. âApolloâ x M. âVulcanâ. A hybrid from New Zealand. Tikitere is a maori name for the geothermal area near Rotorua, also known as ‘Hell’s Gate’, with the largest hot waterfall in the Southern hemisphere. A good late flowering pink variety, with a slowly spreading habit. It flowers well from a young age, with tough wind hardy flowers, deep pink on the outside, opening white on the inside. Later flowering than most pink varieties which avoids most frosts. Forms a strong growing robust rounded tree with thick stems and large leaves. Flws: Apr-May. Ht 2-4 metres in 10 years.
